PROJECT BRIEF
College students (such as myself) face various struggles prior and during their time at school; choosing a major, managing classes, balancing school and work, what we can afford for dinner, and so on. But there is one important issue that college students should become aware of before even deciding on a major, which is how to handle applying for and paying off student loans. Understanding the terms relating to loans and learning about the various options we have, can help college students and their families on taking the first step on achieving a debt free destiny.
The project started with collecting data to visualize. One process was handing out a form where a student would fill how much money they would borrow or have borrowed in order to pay their college tuition. Another process was through an online survey, answering questions like the following: “Do you currently have student debt?” and “How ready are you to pay off your debt?” Through these processes of data collection, my capstone was shaped to be a guide that would help students on how to handle student loans.
The three mediums were created in order to emphasize my project: decorated graduation caps, an informational brochure, and a interactive book. The decorated graduation caps were used to spread awareness on how students are lost and confused on how to handle student loans. This takes them to the informational brochure, where the viewer learns and acknowledges the options that are available to them when it comes to applying and paying off loans. The viewer then takes their knowledge from the brochure and uses it in the interactive book, where it is set up like a “choose your own adventure”. Through their choices, the user can either successfully be ready for their future debts or default. Through these three mediums, the viewer would be able to be informed and enlightened when it comes to their debts, which will possibly lead them to a debt free destiny.
