Express Newark is an interdisciplinary learning space where artists, business leaders, and community residents collaborate, experiment, and innovate in partnership with the staff and students of Rutgers University-Newark by promoting positive transformation and opening avenues of dialogue through art, design, media, and entrepreneurship.

For their soft opening, Express Newark requested an invitation that would be distributed to their visitors. In order to emphasize their mission statement of creating a new, third space for the community and university, a “pop-in” invitation was created.

The invitation’s format was later turned into a program for the grand opening and was also brought into two digital forms, which was a GIF for email attachments and an Eventbrite cover image.

OVERVIEW

I worked with Express Newark to design a “pop-in” invitation for their soft opening that reflects their mission of uniting artists, business leaders, community members, and Rutgers University-Newark to inspire transformation through art, design, media, and entrepreneurship. The invitation visually invites recipients to “peek” inside, as if already stepping into this collaborative space. By blending two- and three-dimensional elements, the design echoes their logo and communicates the concept in a clear, engaging way for all.
