PROJECT BRIEF
Express Newark is an interdisciplinary learning space where artists, business leaders, and community residents collaborate, experiment, and innovate in partnership with the staff and students of Rutgers University-Newark by promoting positive transformation and opening avenues of dialogue through art, design, media, and entrepreneurship.
With their headquarters being moved into the recently renovated Hahnes Building, Express Newark needed a variety of signage and way-finding for all kinds of people that would enter into their space. The Design Consortium, a student-teacher design collaborative that is part of Express Newark, was tasked to develop these needs. The previous team had already created classroom badges, elevator signage, and emergency signs. Expanding from the previous team’s work and developing the colorful brand identity of Express Newark, the latter team extended EN’s visual language into potential directory badges, the main column directories (the floor maps), sub-directories, and super-graphics.
