Military Park Brand Identity

PROJECT BRIEF
Newark’s Military Park has a brand identity that is severely outdated while the park itself had clearly renewed and revitalized itself. Since the project was to redesign a brand identity from Newark, I chose Military Park, because I believe their brand identity should reflect its recent renewal while keeping its historical ties.
Military Park is in the heart of downtown Newark, where buildings such the Prudential Cetner and the NJPAC surround the park. The park also holds a number of historical busts and statues of famous American figures such as George Washington and his men. In order to combine the vitality, history, and park friendliness, the logo combines simplicity, recognizable iconography, and modern appeal. The logo uses the shape of the leaf to emphasize the park’s environment, and the leaves create a shield to reflect its historical past. It also looks visually corporate (reflecting its growing environment) yet organic at the same time.
The brand identity is expanded with promotional posters, light rail banners, digital GIFs, and a prototype app that contains activities in the park, locations of restrooms, seating, and eatery, and news from a local news station.
